Question 1

How much do driving lessons cost in PEI?

Accepted Answer

Private one-on-one driving lessons with Abey Driving School PEI are $55 per hour, plus HST. Multi-hour packs reduce the hourly rate further: the 3-Hour Refresher is $50/hr ($150 + HST), the 5-Hour Skill Builder Pack is $49/hr ($245 + HST), and the 10-Hour Complete Mastery Pack is $47/hr ($470 + HST). There are no hidden fees.

Question 2

What is the cheapest driving school in Charlottetown, PEI?

Accepted Answer

At $55/hr + HST, Abey Driving School PEI offers some of the most affordable private driving lessons in the Charlottetown area. The 10-Hour Complete Mastery Pack drops the rate to $47/hr, making it the best value for new drivers who need more practice.

Question 3

Do you offer online theory courses or classroom driver education?

Accepted Answer

No. We focus exclusively on private, in-car, one-on-one instruction. There are no online modules, no group classrooms, and no theory lectures. Every minute you pay for is spent behind the wheel on real PEI roads with a certified driving instructor.

Question 4

What car do you teach driving lessons in?

Accepted Answer

We teach exclusively in a Tesla. The camera suite, collision warnings, and lane-departure alerts provide an extra layer of safety while you learn. The cabin is nearly silent and the ride is smooth, which helps lower the anxiety that comes with a first lesson. The advanced safety tech means you can focus on building skills without the added stress of a loud, rough-riding training car.

Question 5

Why do you teach in a Tesla instead of a regular car?

Accepted Answer

The Tesla offers several advantages for new drivers. The 360-degree camera system and collision warning give students an extra safety net while they build confidence. The electric drivetrain is smooth and quiet, which reduces the sensory overload that nervous drivers feel. Lane-departure warnings provide real-time feedback that reinforces good habits. The result is a calmer, less stressful learning environment.

Question 6

Where in PEI do you pick students up for driving lessons?

Accepted Answer

We offer door-to-door pickup and drop-off anywhere in Queens County, Prince Edward Island — including Charlottetown, Cornwall, Stratford, Kensington, Winsloe, and surrounding rural communities. We pick you up from home, work, or school. No need to meet at a lot or drive to a training centre.

Question 7

Do you serve all of Prince Edward Island?

Accepted Answer

We currently serve Queens County, PEI, which includes Charlottetown, Stratford, Cornwall, and surrounding communities. If you are outside Queens County, call us at (902) 388-1721 and we will let you know if we can accommodate your area.

Question 8

How many driving lessons do I need before my PEI road test?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your current skill level. Nervous beginners or newcomers to Canada typically benefit from the 5- or 10-hour packs. Drivers who are nearly test-ready may only need a 1- or 3-hour refresher. You can take the Road Test Readiness Quiz on the homepage to get a rough estimate, or book a single lesson and we will tell you honestly after the first session how many more hours you likely need.

Question 9

Can I use the Tesla for my PEI road test?

Accepted Answer

Lessons are conducted in the Tesla, but you should confirm with your Access PEI testing centre whether a vehicle with advanced driver-assistance features is permitted for the exam. Most students use their own or a family vehicle for the test itself — the lessons prepare you to drive any car safely, not just the Tesla.

Question 10

Do you teach nervous drivers or teenagers in PEI?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A large part of our work is with nervous new drivers and teens. The one-on-one format means there is no pressure from other students in the car, and the calm Tesla cabin helps reduce first-drive anxiety. We go at your pace and never rush a student who is not ready. Many parents choose one-on-one lessons specifically because their teen gets the instructor’s full attention for the entire session.

Question 11

I have a foreign driver’s license and just moved to PEI. Can you help me pass the Canadian driving test?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Many of our students are newcomers to Canada who hold a foreign license but are not sure their habits translate to the Canadian test. We will assess your driving, identify what an examiner would mark you down for, and focus your lessons on fixing those specific habits. Common issues for newcomers include intersection scanning, speed management, and Canadian right-of-way rules.

Question 12

How do I book a driving lesson with Abey Driving School PEI?

Accepted Answer

Click any "Book a Lesson" button on the site to open the booking form. Choose your package, fill in your contact details and preferred days, and we will reach out to confirm your time. You can also call or text (902) 388-1721 to book directly.

Question 13

What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?

Accepted Answer

Please provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to reschedule or cancel a lesson. Cancellations within 24 hours of the scheduled start time may be subject to a fee equal to one hour of instruction. To cancel or reschedule, call or text (902) 388-1721.

Question 14

Are you a certified driving instructor in PEI?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We are certified driving instructors with 7 years of experience teaching in Prince Edward Island. We have taught hundreds of students, from complete beginners to experienced drivers preparing for their road test.

Question 15

Do you offer group driving lessons or just one-on-one?

Accepted Answer

We only offer one-on-one, private driving lessons. We do not run group lessons or multi-student sessions. This means every minute of your lesson is focused entirely on you — no waiting your turn, no sharing the car with other students, and no wasted time.

Question 16

What should I bring to my first driving lesson?

Accepted Answer

Bring your valid PEI learner’s permit or driver’s license, comfortable shoes (no flip-flops or heavy boots), and glasses or contacts if you wear them. If you do not yet have a learner’s permit, we can still take you for a first lesson to get you comfortable behind the wheel — just let us know when booking.

Question 17

Do you teach manual or automatic transmission?

Accepted Answer

The Tesla is a single-pedal electric vehicle with no traditional transmission, so all lessons are effectively automatic. If you specifically need manual transmission practice, we recommend checking with another PEI school that offers a manual training vehicle.

Question 18

Can parents ride along during their teen’s driving lesson?

Accepted Answer

Yes, parents are welcome to sit in the back seat during a lesson. Many parents find it reassuring to see how the lesson works and what their teen is being taught. Just let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly.

Question 19

How long is each driving lesson?

Accepted Answer

Each lesson is a minimum of one hour. You can book 1, 3, 5, or 10-hour packs, and lessons can be scheduled in 1- or 2-hour blocks depending on what works best for your schedule and attention span.

Question 20

Do you offer driving lessons on weekends or evenings?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we offer flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends to accommodate students who work or attend school during the day. When you book, let us know your preferred days and times and we will do our best to match them.
